The importance of communication in business cannot be emphasized enough. Smooth operations demand that you constantly keep in touch with your business acquaintances. Needless to say, a phone system is one of the most useful purchases your business can make. It is usually the easiest way to contact your clients and customers.

There are normally a lot of factors to consider before buying a telephone system. Of course, you have to make sure it is compatible with other equipment that you already own or may need in future, such as voicemail, messaging on-hold, headsets, or conferencing equipment. You will also have to choose a phone system that supports all the features that your business requires.

Internet Voice, also known as the Voice over Internet Protocol or VoIP, is the latest technology which allows you to make telephone calls using a broadband Internet connection in place of the regular phone line. It converts the voice signals from your telephone handset into a digital signal that can travel over the internet and then converts it back at the other end so you are allowed to speak to anyone with a regular phone number.

When placing a VoIP based call using a phone with an adapter, you will hear a dial tone and dial just as always. VoIP may also allow you to call directly from a computer by using a conventional telephone or a microphone.

A broadband connection is required to take advantage of VoIP. This can be either through a cable modem, or through high speed services such as DSL or a local area network. You can hook up any inexpensive microphone to your computer and transmit your voice through a modem or connect a phone directly to a telephone adaptor.

VoIP or Internet Voice brings with it features and services that are not available on a traditional phone because of their digital nature. You will not need to maintain or pay the additional charges for a line just to make telephone calls when you have a broadband internet connection.

Apart from that, with many VoIP plans, you can talk for as long as you wish with any person in the world provided the person you are talking to has also an internet connection. To add to this, you can talk to many people at the same time for no any additional charge. This is actually a great advantage for people who have many family members abroad. You can talk for longer than usual. If you are using a telephone line it will cost you a lot of money for long distance calls.

In addition to this, you can use your VoIP or Internet Voice service wherever you travel provided you have a high speed Internet connection available.

There are obviously some differences between traditional telephone service and VoIP. Some VoIP services won’t work during power outages and the service provider may not be able to offer backup power. Moreover, VoIP providers sometimes may not offer directory assistance or white page listings.

Also, VoIP can cost quite a lot of money for some. Most of the entities who are interested in using this technology are large companies, but it can be significant even for the homemaker.

VoIP technology is still at it’s early stages but it is predicted to expand rapidly. As time passes more people will be adopting this technology. The procedure to install the gadgets required to make these calls is also simple.
